Context & customer needs

The customer, a producer of powdered and flaked dehydrated yeast, wanted to drastically reduce the cleaning time for its bagging line, which required two operators and shut down production for an entire weekend in the event of a complete cleaning. Due to the high sensitivity of the product to moisture and bacterial risks, the company needed a solution that complied with current and future hygiene standards.

The new line also had to prevent any product retention, preserve the integrity of the flakes and offer great flexibility to handle multiple formats. Finally, the customer was looking for an automated solution incorporating high-performance cleaning in place (CIP) and a high level of containment to ensure hygiene, productivity and safety.

Our client’s objectives were

  • To significantly reduce cleaning time.
  • To eliminate manual dismantling of the line.
  • To preserve the texture of the flakes.
  • To package directly after drying.
  • Avoid any product retention.
  • Ensure fast multi-format packaging.
  • Integrate an automatic bag-in-box system.

Dehydrated powder

Dehydrated yeast is yeast whose moisture content has been significantly reduced to ensure stability, preservation and microbiological performance. It is widely used in the food industry for fermentation, flavouring and improving the nutritional properties of products.

The proposed solution

The solution is based on a HBM 1030 hygienic bagging machine using bottom-up technology, ensuring gentle and accurate filling of yeast without risk of damage. It incorporates a complete CIP system for rapid cleaning, an elevator conveyor for bag-in-box packaging and a centralised control system ensuring traceability, containment and continuous operational performance.

The solution implemented includes:

  • Bottom-up filling system
  • High-precision vertical dosing screw
  • Deaeration system with micro-perforated lances
  • Dual-mode elevator conveyor (bag-in-box/direct bagging)
  • Complete CIP unit (nozzles + filtered hot air drying)
  • High-sensitivity metal detector
  • Dynamic checkweigher
  • Labelling machine and automatic rejection conveyor
  • PLC + HMI with integrated traceability
  • IP69K architecture for intensive cleaning areas

Benefits for the customer

  • Automatic cleaning without dismantling.
  • Production resumption in less than 4 hours.
  • Preservation of fragile flakes.
  • Massive reduction in downtime.
  • Flexible multi-format packaging.
  • Zero product retention.
  • Fully integrated traceability.
